Venue Manager

Start: ASAP Where: Blackheath, NSW Type: Full time Pay: On application

JOB DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a commercially minded Venue Manager to lead Kyah’s day-to-day operations while actively driving the business forward.

This is a hands-on, floor-led leadership role, not an office-based position.

About Kyah

Kyah is a unique and evolving property located in Blackheath in the Blue Mountains. With additional assets across the group and future development plans underway, there is clear momentum and opportunity.

The property combines:

  • 46 room accommodation
  • Blaq — a 150-seat restaurant and bar
  • A growing events and conferencing offering
  • Facilities across 2 acres with future wellness development planned

It is not a traditional hotel. The positioning is:

  • Relaxed, not casual
  • Confident, not loud
  • Considered, not corporate

The Role

The Venue Manager will take ownership of the property’s performance, guest experience, and team, while contributing to its ongoing evolution.

This role requires a balance of:

  • In the business (service, team, guest experience)
  • On the business (revenue, activation, performance)

The venue manager will:

  • Be highly visible across the property
  • Lead service from the front, particularly in Blaq
  • Oversee operations across accommodation, F&B, and events
  • Work closely with ownership on performance and direction

Operations & Guest Experience

  • Ensure a consistent, high-quality experience across all areas of the property
  • Maintain strong standards of service, presentation, and detail
  • Be present and engaged with guests, setting the tone for the venue

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, coach, and align an existing, capable team (notably kitchen and housekeeping)
  • Build a strong, positive, and accountable culture
  • Develop team capability while maintaining energy and consistency

Commercial Performance

  • Drive revenue performance across rooms, F&B, and events
  • Improve revenue quality (not just volume), including spend per guest
  • Actively identify and execute opportunities to grow midweek and quieter periods
  • Maintain discipline across labour, rostering, and cost control

Community Engagement

  • Build local relationships within Blackheath and the Blue Mountains
  • Strengthen Kyah’s presence as a local destination

Key Traits

  • Hands-on, visible leadership style and energised by being on the floor rather than behind a desk
  • Commercially aware and performance driven.  Thinks beyond operations — focused on growth, improvement and revenue quality
  • Strong people leader, able to align and develop existing team, building culture and accountability without imposing a corporate framework
  • Confident communicator, comfortable with ownership interaction
  • Creative and entrepreneurial — brings ideas and initiative
  • Able to elevate the offering while maintaining Kyah’s relaxed, authentic identity

Working Environment

  • Collaborative ownership with hands-on involvement
  • Strong existing kitchen and housekeeping teams
  • Opportunity to influence the direction of the venue
  • Future growth across the group

Summary

This is a key leadership role within a growing hospitality business.  We are looking for someone who will:

  • Lead from the front
  • Drive performance
  • Build culture
  • Contribute to the ongoing evolution of Kyah
