JOB DESCRIPTION

Senior Bar & Events Attendant

A senior bar person with strong leadership potential and genuine opportunities to progress into a 2IC role.

Ashfield Bowling Club | Inner West Sydney

Ashfield Bowling Club isn't your typical club.

The oldest surviving independent bowling club in New South Wales, Ashfield Bowlo is a rare piece of living Sydney history: 100% independent, member-owned, and still going strong.

Part neighbourhood bar, part bowling club, part comedy club, and part live music venue, we're a community hub that hosts everything from functions and celebrations to comedy nights, live music, trivia, bowls events, raffles, and community gatherings.

We're looking for friendly, reliable people who enjoy working with others and helping create a venue where locals feel at home and newcomers quickly become regulars.

We are seeking an experienced hospitality professional who delivers great service, leads by example, and contributes positively to team culture. This role is ideal for a strong senior bar attendant looking to take on more responsibility, with genuine potential to progress into a 2IC position.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Providing excellent customer service to members and guests.
  • Serving beer, wine, spirits, and other beverages.
  • Assisting with functions including birthdays, engagement parties, corporate events, celebrations, and community gatherings.
  • Helping set up, run, and pack down functions and events.
  • Assisting with comedy nights, trivia, live music, raffles, bowls events, and other club activities.
  • Operating the POS system and conducting gaming payouts.
  • Assisting with memberships, member enquiries, and the sign-in of guests and visitors.
  • Supporting management with the day-to-day operation of the venue.
  • Providing support and guidance to junior staff.
  • Helping maintain high standards of service, presentation, and venue operations.
  • Taking ownership of customer experience and venue presentation during shifts.
  • Maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming venue.
  • Pitching in wherever required to help ensure the smooth operation of the club.

What We're Looking For

  • Demonstrated hospitality experience and confidence working independently.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work well within a team and lead by example.
  • Strong leadership potential and the ability to support and mentor newer staff.
  • Sound judgement and the ability to remain calm and effective during busy service periods.
  • Ability to assess the floor, anticipate customer needs, and take initiative.
  • Comfortable working across bar service, functions, events, gaming, and general venue duties.
  • Energetic and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willing to clean, restock, reset, and maintain venue presentation throughout a shift.
  • Happy to pitch in wherever required to help the venue operate smoothly.
  • Enjoy making locals feel valued and welcome, and take pride in turning first-time visitors into regulars.

We value attitude, initiative, common sense, leadership potential, and a genuine desire to contribute to the success of the club.

What We Offer

  • Flexible casual employment.
  • A friendly and supportive team environment.
  • Opportunities to develop hospitality and leadership skills.
  • A varied role spanning bar service, functions, live music, comedy, trivia, gaming, and venue operations.
  • The chance to be part of a not-for-profit venue that plays an important role in its local community.
  • Genuine opportunities for increased responsibility and progression into a 2IC role for the right candidate.

No two shifts are the same at the ABC. One night you might be slinging drinks during a packed comedy show; the next, pouring beers from the six-tap outdoor bar at a function on our recreation green, helping run a live music event, hosting a barefoot bowls competition, or supporting a community fundraiser. If you enjoy variety, responsibility, and being part of a venue that people genuinely care about, you'll fit right in.
