JOB DESCRIPTION

Royal Queensland Golf Club is seeking an experienced and motivated Head Chef to lead our kitchen operations and continue to elevate the food offering for our Members and guests.

This is a hands-on leadership role for a chef who sets high standards, leads from the front, and creates a kitchen culture built on professionalism, respect, and teamwork.

About the Role

As Head Chef, you will be responsible for the overall leadership and performance of the Club’s kitchen operations. Working closely with the House Manager and broader Operations team, you will set the culinary direction for the Club while remaining actively involved in day-to-day service delivery.

This role is suited to a Head Chef who believes that great food and a respectful, well-run kitchen go hand in hand, and who is motivated by continuously improving standards, systems, and the Member experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and inspire the kitchen team to deliver high-quality food and service every day.
  • Set and uphold culinary standards that reflect the expectations of Royal Queensland Golf Club.
  • Deliver consistently strong daily menus while also designing and executing exciting, high-impact menus for functions and events.
  • Take a hands-on role in kitchen operations, including preparation, service, and event delivery.
  • Foster a kitchen culture that is professional, respectful, inclusive, and supportive.
  • Manage ordering, stock control, and food cost performance.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, WHS, and Club policies.
  • Train, mentor, and develop chefs and kitchen staff through clear communication, leadership, and example.
  • Drive continuous improvement in food quality, presentation, systems, and service outcomes.

You are a capable, confident kitchen leader who combines strong culinary skills with emotional intelligence and professionalism. You understand that the best kitchens are built on clear standards, mutual respect, and calm leadership under pressure.

You will have:

  • Proven experience as a Head Chef or senior kitchen leader in a quality-focused venue.
  • A strong track record delivering high-quality daily menus and standout function and event catering.
  • A hands-on leadership style and the ability to lead service from the kitchen without ego.
  • A leadership approach that values respect, accountability, and teamwork over intimidation or hierarchy.
  • Strong organisational skills, including ordering, stock management, and cost control.
  • A clear commitment to food safety, compliance, and kitchen governance.
