JOB DESCRIPTION

We’re looking for a reliable and motivated Cook to join our busy Melbourne café. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a fast‑paced brunch environment, can work confidently on their own during quieter periods, and also slots seamlessly into a collaborative team during peak service. You’ll be preparing high‑quality breakfast and lunch dishes, maintaining kitchen standards, and contributing to a warm, efficient café culture.

REQUIREMENTS

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook breakfast, brunch, and lunch dishes to consistent café standards
  • Manage prep, maintain stock rotation, and support smooth service flow
  • Work independently when required, including managing the line during quieter shifts
  • Collaborate closely with the front‑of‑house team during busy periods
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised kitchen in line with food safety regulations
  • Follow allergen‑safe procedures and dietary requirement protocols
  • Assist with menu updates, specials, and seasonal changes
  • Ensure Saturday coverage as part of the regular roster

Required Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience as a Cook or Café/Breakfast Chef - minimum 2yrs
  • Strong understanding of café‑style menus and fast service workflows
  • Ability to work both independently and as an integral part of a team
  • Excellent time management and communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail, especially with consistency and plating
  • Ability to stay calm and efficient during peak periods
  • Understanding of dietary requirements and allergen handling
  • Previous experience in baking cafe style cakes and cookies

Required Certifications

  • Cert 3 in Commercial Cookery – mandatory
  • Food Handler Certificate (Level 1) – mandatory
  • Food Safety Supervisor (Level 2) – mandatory
  • Working With Children Check – desired
  • First Aid Certificate – desirable
