Musicland Melbourne is looking for a reliable Chef / Cook to run our kitchen during live music events, private functions, and weekend trading.

About the Role

You'll be responsible for the day-to-day operation of our kitchen, preparing fresh, high-quality meals while maintaining excellent food safety and presentation standards.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Running the kitchen independently during service
  • Food preparation and cooking
  • Stock and managing inventory
  • Maintaining a clean and organised kitchen
  • Ensuring food safety and hygiene compliance
  • Minimising waste and helping control food costs
  • Working closely with management to maintain high standards
  • Assisting with menu improvements and seasonal specials

About You

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has previous experience as a Chef or experienced Cook
  • Can confidently manage a small kitchen
  • Is reliable, organised, and self-motivated
  • Works well under pressure
  • Takes pride in producing consistently great food
  • Has excellent communication and teamwork skills

The successful applicant will ideally have:

  • Minimum 2 years' experience working in a commercial kitchen.
  • Experience with grill, fryer and à la carte service.
  • Strong time management and organisational skills.
  • The ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • A positive attitude and willingness to be part of a close-knit team.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
  • A genuine passion for producing fresh, consistent food.
  • Understanding of stock rotation, portion control and food cost management.
  • Experience with storing stock.
  • Sound knowledge of Food Safety Standards and HACCP principles.
  • Ability to maintain a clean, organised and compliant kitchen at all times.
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends and public holidays as required.
  • Reliable transport and punctual attendance.
  • Australian working rights.
  • Ability to lift up to 20kg and remain on your feet for extended periods.
  • Experience catering for functions and events is highly regarded.
  • A willingness to contribute ideas for menu improvements and seasonal specials.
  • A professional appearance and friendly, team-focused attitude.

Highly Regarded

  • Certificate III or IV in Commercial Cookery.
  • Experience working in a live music venue, pub, sports bar or entertainment venue.
  • Experience with catering for groups and private functions.
  • Knowledge of dietary requirements including vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options.
  • Barista or basic front-of-house experience (advantageous but not essential).

Induction/onboarding required prior to starting role
