The Assistant Sommelier is responsible for assisting the Head Sommelier with the ongoing function of the wine program our Blackbird Restaurant and Bar in Melbourne.  The role is service focused with a view to offering professional wine service and generating a growth in sales of wine. 

Blackbird has landed in Flinders Lane Melbourne - across three levels, discover an intimate cocktail bar, elegant dining spaces and premium private event rooms. We want our guest to experience the best and we are seeking a Assistant Sommelier to join out team. 
 

We are looking for:  

• Delivery of professional wine service and offering sound and relevant insight around the venue’s wine program along with tasteful advice surrounding food and wine pairings.
• As part of the service team ensure that high standards are consistently met and assist the team in a hands-on capacity during peak periods or as needed.
• Educate and support other venue staff on wine list, professional wine service and recommended food and wine pairing
• At least 2 years experience working as a sommelier in a venue with comparable list breadth and scale.
• Demonstrated commitment to learning and progression in wine knowledge, service and sales.
• Demonstrated management and leadership skills with staff
• Advanced knowledge of Domestic and Internationally relevant producers, regions and grape varieties.
